The first activity of the year was our 40 Year Reunion held at the Blackhawk Auto Museum in Danville. Over 75 past members and their wives attended the reunion to talk about the good old days and meet the members who over the past forty years have carried on the Roadster tradition. The reunion was a first class event that was cratered by Scotts of Walnut Creek with live music for a night of dancing. If you haven't had a chance to visit the Blackhawk Auto Museum, you should take the time. It is a great facility and a one-of-a-kind collection right here in the Bay Area.
The first club Run of the year was in was a Cruise down the Valley to the Goodguys March Meet in Bakersfield this was a weekend with fast cars and long nights.
Our next Run was a cruise in May to the Gold Country and historic old Jamestown. The ride on Saturday was great. Very pretty country and a beautiful day. After lunch in Sonora, we arrived in Jamestown in time to walk the streets and visit the points of interest, and even do a little shopping. By the evening, the weather had made a drastic change and our beautiful day had changed to rain. But after a few cocktails and an excellent dinner, things did not look so bad. The next morning it continued to rain, making the ride home a little damp but our spirits were still high.
June started out with a one day cruise to San Jose for lunch and then a ride to Portola where we were able to take a tour of a well know collector of military equipment. This Collection was very impressive, there were over 300 tanks, personnel carriers and various other military vehicles completely restored and on display in several large buildings located on his estate.
June also is the month we make our annual cruise to southern California to the L.A. Roadsters Father's Day Show. This show draws over 800 Roadsters and is growing in size every year. While in L.A. area we drove out to attend the SO Cal Speed Shops open house where we were fed and enjoyed looking at their facilities and the projects they have in the works. On Sunday, after the show, we cruised back to northern California.
In August we had a run to Inverness for the weekend, were we BBQ'd on the deck of our motel and took a cruise to several small communities in the Tamales Bay Area. The weather was great and the countryside was from a postcard.
Each Year in September we look forward to "Roadster Roundup" This is the one time, each year the seven all roadster clubs in California get together to talk about "What's Happin" and visit with old friends. This was the 35th year this event has been held, this year the Roundup was hosted by the Valley Roadsters in Fresno. This event was topped off with a weekend of good food, an afternoon cruise through the valley, dinner and the play "GREASE". This year Roadster Roundup topped off our driving events for the club.
To complete the year in December our club had its annual Christmas Party in historic Folsom. This was a weekend of food, wine, and even a tour of Sacramento Vintage Fords Facilities. There was also time to do some last-minute shopping. But, most of all, it was a time to visit with our friends and talk about what trips we would like to plan for the next year.
In addition to attending Club Events and other local Street Rod Events in Northern California several members will be driving their Roadsters this year to Runs and Events throughout the United States and Canada.
In the Month of June eight of our members will be on the "TOPLESS TOUR", hosted by Andy Brizio a member of BAR for over 25 years. The Topless Tour starts in San Francisco, CA. and cruises east to Indianapolis, Indiana for the Goodguys Hot Rod Nationals. The next stop for the Topless Tour will be a trip back to California with a stop in Los Angeles to attend the L.A. Roadsters Father's Day Run and then cruise back to Northern California.
Jim Holland another 25 year member has put together a trip in July which includes a cruise through the northwestern states to Vancouver and Victoria, British Columbia.
Also in the month of July is a cruise to Coeurd"Alene, Idaho and Glacier National Park, returning through Sun Valley on the drive home. This trip has been planned by one of our newest members Pete Howe. There are six members joining Pete on this cruise through Idaho.
As you can see fourteen of our twenty-nine members will be putting a few extra miles on their Roadsters this summer.
BAR believes you've got to drive your Roadster topless to experience the true thrill of it.
Well its back on the road again,
